Project S4: Dunlop Tyres

I wanted a set of performance road and occasional track tyres for the Project S4. And, having covered the Dunlop Sport Maxx TT challenge cup races, with hot hatch/fast road, lightly modified saloon cars in previous race seasons, and chatted positively to the racers about these new Dunlop tyres, I thought I would give them a go.

People often forget to sort their only point of contact with the road – tyres – when modifying a car, preferring instead to chase bhp, or fit shiny bits. But it’s a mistake. Suspsension set-up and tyre choice are the two most critical factors in making a quick, well set-up car, in my point of view – whether for fast road or track use. Money spent here on a top brand, like Dunlop, will reward you in droves, and enrich your driving experience, road or track.

These Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres have been about for a few years now, offering “the precision that high-performance drivers want, with DuPont™ Kevlar® reinforced lower sidewalls enhancing road feedback and driving precision, to help empower these drivers to find their ultimate drive.” Indeed!

They feature the following trick technology, and benefits:

I’ve had these tyres on over a very snowy, icy and wet Winter and into the warmest Spring for years, and, I have to say, on the AWD Project S4, they have been superb – come snow, rain or bone dry tarmac. The “touch technology” offers amazing improvements to grip feel and feedback, versus conventional performance tyres, with very proficient grip levels in the dry and even better grip levels and a real feeling of security in the wet, thanks to the added feedback levels, which really let you know where the grip limit is… well in advance, helping you to get on top of over or understeer, before it happens. Their wear rate is very acceptable too, even with the bionic grip levels generated from the combination of the S4’s ace Quattro system. And, I had a LOT of fun safely four-wheel-drifting the black ice back roads in perfect control over Winter, and expect to have good track days with them this Spring and Summer. More here soon…

I highly recommend these tyres to any performance car enthusiast, as a great all-rounder. Trick technology stuff. Bravo Dunlop.
